Bilbo's Birthday Party

Talk about one of the more interesting days in my life.
This year it became clear, very early on, that this year's Bilbo Birthday was not going to fit everyone's schedules. So we decided to make a whole variety filled day of it.
Using Danielle's baking tools and Miranda's kitchen our little lady hobbits made a wheat free cake from a fancy cake mix they had found at Choices. A mini version of the one in the Fellowship was their goal. We feel that they got fairly close and were delighted by the results. The five of us got into costume and headed over to Confederation Park in Burnaby.
Once there we met up with other members (not in costume but present- YAY) and watched as Tiff rolled out her beautifully done banner. By using the poles we use for the BC Renfest Banner, we got the banner nice and high in a very short time.
Turkey legs on the portable grill, basic salad and that wonderful cake filled us quite well. It was very satisfying. Lighting the cake's candle became impossible so we plowed ahead. Using Martin's dagger this time, Shannon got to cut into the moist cake.
We brought along portable music and danced our food off, eventually packed up and then headed to the Bread Garden at Metrotown.
We lost some and gained others at the Bread Garden. We were happy to see our brand new member Kaylea finally joining us (In Arwen gown no less) and staying with us for the run of the mall. It was also great to see Clayten and Tammie there as they were willing to man cameras. Not to mention seeing Fancouver people and our fearless leader Kiran out once more. It was a good group size. We sat down and had coffee, more food and great conversation. Somewhere around eight we lost some more but gained an adventure through Metrotown.
We visited Toys 'R' Us, Games Workshop and Ages Three And Up before calling it a night and heading back to our place.
In the end a very small group of us wound up around a fire burning away in our brazier, in our backyard. We roasted a few marshmallows, shared thoughts and stories and recapped the day.
I had hoped that we could have gotten pictures of everyone (not just the costumed folk) but alas. Next year. No one is safe.
^_^
All in all... A successful day.
