Christina's and Martin's Renewal Of Vows
(Medieval Style)
Part
Two: Ceremony
June 8,
1991. We had an Unitarian Minister and she did a wonderful job. We
got to pick from her book in order to create our wedding vows, and we
exchanged our rings. We drank red wine from a large goblet and made a
promise to share our hardships and our sweetness in life. It was
nice.
June 9, 2001. Surrounded
by trees and friends we rode in on horses and our dear friend Steph performed
the ceremony.
The only
shame was that the horses had to be led in by their owners. Martin
and I could have done so ourselves but the insurance policy on the
property and on the horses stated that we couldn't. So Duma was led
by JP and Rocky was lead by Melissa. They both dressed up and we were
very lucky to have them.
Martin gave me a necklace
and I gave him a broach. We shared wine from the same goblet and kissed much
like the first wedding. That cup also has a story behind it. There was a wonderful
lady in my life. Her name was Joanne Wilson. She was unable to attend the
first wedding so she gave us that goblet as a gift. We used it in the first
wedding so that we could think of her and that her presence would not be missed
as much. When we came back from our honeymoon she had disappeared. She had
run off to start a new life and no one has heard from her since. Martin and
I do wonder where she is and hope to find her one day. Honey. Your cup was
once again part of a happy event. You were there in heart if not in body.
Our
friend Antoinette put together a group of Flautists for us. It was
wonderful as it not only created atmosphere as people arrived but
they also learned how to play Bonny Portmore for our arrival.
<sigh>
Very
shortly after the ceremony (and pics) it did rain but not by much. My
hair was the most affected but it more or less stayed in place just
fine. Ani (the wonderful woman who did our hair and make-up, and a
long time friend) kept saying "Just don't get your hair wet." over
and over. Hmm.. Makes me wonder what she put in our hair. Maybe it's
best that I don't know.
A number
of people were telling us that a shower is a blessing. As it didn't
affect the dinner we plan on taking it as such.
