It has been a very long time since we have gone to a movie dressed up.
Long ago I fell in love with CS Lewis' creations and my fascination with Narnia began. When I heard the movies were being released and that a whole new version of this wonderful world would be born I had to dress up and have a blast.. And dress up we did.
We chose the Paramount Theatre for its central location and quickly picked costumes we wanted to do. I really wanted to do Susan. Her archery gifts have always caught my interest and the green dress she wears is flattering and fairly straight forward. That and the long dark hair helps. This lead to Tiff wanting to present herself as Lucy. While we created and worked on the costume I could not resist constantly referring to her as little sis. It was great. Martin just had to take on Tumnus. The hooves proved to be a delight and a challenge that he rose to (in height as well as skill) with grace and balance. Quickly Jeff saw an opportunity to use some pieces of his all ready existing suit of armour in order to do Peter. Knowing that Teri would be with us we thought hard about who she could dress up as. It took no thought at all for her to blurt out her love for Aslan and thus a quick Lion costume was born. With Martin's Jedi robe, gloves with black nails, a lion's tail and bits of wool tied into her hair she made a perfect lion.
We arrived at the theatre well in advance, got a junky meal into us and ran around the theatre socialising and posing for pictures. A lady from the Australian Embassy even gave us her business card so that we can get a copy of the picture she took. She was visiting here from Australia and just had to bring back a picture from us. That was delightful and very flattering. Tumnus/Martin kept introducing himself to children and 'shaking their hands' as well as asking if they were daughters of Eve and sons of Adam. He also had a number of people taking pictures of the hooves. I had one gentleman who wanted one of my arrows for a keepsake. He seemed very disappointed when I said nuh-uh. Lucy/Tiff had practiced the Tumnus lullaby on her flute and had brought her flute along. She sat down in the lobby and played a bit of it. She admits she needs more practice but we enjoyed it and clapped our hearts out. Jeff was Mr. Hero Macho all evening and Aslan/Teri proudly pranced around with her pride always in tact. It was great.
Afterwards we headed to Dennys for an extremely late dinner (1am) and eventually wandered down to the Hudson Bay in order to take some pictures there as well. I am still not sure who was more crazy. Us or the clubbers, bums and late night drinkers out on the streets that night. No matter. We survived and look forward to completing the costumes (Details, fit, belts anchored, etc...) as time was not kind to us and we didn't get as much done as we had hoped. I found that my dress kept bunching up as my belt slid (Needs to be anchored) and it looks like rolling hills on the waist. Lucy and Susan dresses need the detailing around the neck and cuff. Need a better Tumnus wig as well as some lighter longer fur on the waist and... well.. You get the idea.
